Went for a somewhat sluggish run this morning. I felt like a bit of a badass as I took a road that was marked as private. Anyway, it took me past a sheep farm and a few railway stops. In Wales, there is an abundance of cute little steam trains which stop everywhere. On that note, we drove up to Llamberis this morning, to board the Snowdon Mountain Railway, which take you up to the summer if Mount Snowdon. Alas, the next train was due to depart at 5pm, so we booked for tomorrow afternoon. The silver lining proved to be the beautiful views as we drove to Llamberis (FYI: in Welsh, two 'll's together sounds like an "L" with tonnes of breath behind it, which could result in some spittle when pronouncing).
We decided that we needed to see another Welsh castle, and today's selection was Criccieth Castle, on the coast. Built by Llewelyn the Great around 1230, taken by Kind Edward and refortified, now mostly in ruins. We enjoyed the sprawling views of the coastline, and L-man got particularly excited when he found out where the catapults were likely used - this kind of detail is totally up an 8 year old's alley. Paul and L-man searched for shells down on the beach, dipped their toes into the surprisingly warm ocean, and turned back home. As i write, the house is filled with the smell of what is sure to be a scrumptious supper: Uncle Joseph's chicken marsala. Yum.
